Mangalore Today News Network

Mumbai, Apr 11, 2015:  Latur in Marathwada is familiar with drought. For years, farmers have been battered by truant rains. But as the emergency hits unprecedented extremes, a train is being sent from Rajasthan with water.

"Railway wagons reach Miraj. Filling up of drinking water in process. Wagons to be sent to Latur soon," Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said.

The plan was to fill about 50 special wagons at Miraj. Because that was taking too long, for now, 10 containers have been sent on the train and the rest will follow, said sources. Each wagon carries about 54,000 litres of water.

Another train with 50 wagons of water is expected to be ready on Friday, a railway official said according to the Press Trust of India.
