Tendulkar’s son’s selection ahead of record-breaking Pranav Dhanawade puzzles fans

Mangalore Today News Network

Mumbai, May 31, 2016: There are thousands of hopeful kids in the Maidans of Mumbai, hopefully waiting in the wings for a place in the state team, which is the most successful team in Domestic competition history. Earlier in the year, another Mumbai boy made it to the headlines with a marathon unbeaten 1009, which is the highest individual score in the history of the game, across competitive matches. The question here is that, that feat was not good enough to get Dhanawade a place in the West Zone U-16 side. To pour scorn over misery, batting legend Sachin Tendulkar‘s son, Arjun was given the nod.

Social media went abuzz after the news broke out. There are whispers in the Mumbai cricketing circles that all-rounder Arjun’s selection happened because of his father’s clout. Then senior Tendulkar has always stayed away from his son’s cricketing travails from day one, even asking the media to lay off on many occasions. There were plenty of questions on Twitter and Facebook, baffled by how the Kalyan-based batsman couldn’t get into the side.

A couple of years of years ago, Arjun was overlooked for the Mumbai U-14 side, with selectors asking him to work on his skills. Sources say that the selection for the West Zone side happened before Dhanawade’s knock. The word going around is that Dhanawade is 15 years old. Born on May 13, 2000, Dhanawade recently turned 16.
