Dayasagar was regularly texting the girl and Rakshith had warned him against doing this, police said. The police have detained two persons in the murder, including a minor.

The victim and the accused were both II PU (Commerce) students. Rakshith and his accomplice, a minor, allegedly followed Dayasagar when he had gone to the toilet room located on the fourth floor of the college and stabbed him to death.

They allegedly stabbed him on his throat. Hearing his cry, the security personnel and other employees rushed to the toilet. Dayanand’s father, who works as a driver in the college, was also among those who went there and seeing him in this condition, they shifted him to a nearby hospital, but he reportedly died enroute.

“Rakshith is alleged to have been love with a girl classmate and the victim is alleged to have been regularly messaging her. Rakshith came to know about this and is said to have warned him. The two are said to have had frequent fights over the issue and three days back, the two had exchanged fisticuffs,” said an officer.

The police have found out that both of them were in love with a same girl studying in their class and had kept warning each other to stay away from her. The victim had reportedly assaulted Rakshith a few days back, which ended up with Wednesday’s murder. Rakshith is alleged to have brought a knife to the college and had kept it in his college bag.

“Both the victim and Rakshith were fighting over a love interest. The incident happened inside the college campus. Two accused, including a minor, have been arrested,” Chetan Singh Rathor, DCP (North) told the media.

Following the incident, the college was closed for the day.

The Bagalagunte police has registered a case of murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
