Tamil Nadu BJP leader Annamalai claims ‘media will be in our control in 6 months’, triggers row

Chennai, Jul 16, 2021: Newly appointed Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai has triggered a major row with his latest social media post claiming that he will gain control of the media in six months.

"In the next six months, we will control the media and take it in our hands, so don’t worry. No media can play false news all the time. The former BJP president has become a minister in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. All media will come under him. Mistakes can’t happen continuously and you can’t play politics with it," said Annamalai.

Annamalai was referring to former Tamil Nadu BJP chief L Murugan being appointed the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting in the recent Union Cabinet reshuffle.

 


Annamalai has been travelling by road from Coimbatore to Chennai while meeting party cadres on the way. This has led to major trouble for the authorities who have been struggling to prevent public gatherings as per the Covid protocols.

Amidst this, a video of Annamalai claiming that the media is playing false news. He further asks his party workers to not worry as the media will come under their control within six months. The comments have triggered a major controversy in Tamil Nadu.

Condemning Annamalai’s words, State IT Minister Mano Thangaraj said that Media should work independently and alleged that Annamalai is trying to coerce the Media to favour one party.
