Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, Aug 24 2017, DH News : The Supreme Court’s nine-judge bench will on Thursday deliver its judgement on whether right to privacy is a fundamental right. The Constitution bench presided over by Chief Justice J S Khehar had on August 2 reserved its verdict after hearing marathon arguments for six days over three weeks.

Supreme Court.jpThe Union government, led by Attorney General K K Venugopal maintained, “There is a fundamental right to privacy but it is a wholly qualified right. Since right to privacy consists of diverse aspects and it is a sub-specie of liberty, every aspect of the sub-species will not qualify as a fundamental right.”

In an acknowledgment of the need for data protection, the government also formed a panel headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice B N Srikrishna to suggest a draft bill to keep personal details of the citizens safe and secure.
