New Delhi, Dec 18, 2018 : The BJP continued to target Rahul Gandhi over Supreme Court’s verdict on Rafale deal, with party MPs demanding an apology from the Congress president in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Yahoonews reported.

"Rahul Gandhi maafi mange (Rahul Gandhi should apologise)," the placards held by BJP lawmakers stated. On the other hand, the Opposition countered with slogans of "gali gali me shor hai, Modi sarkar chor hai" (everyone knows that Modi government is a thief).

The protest didn’t seem to have gone down well with the UPA chairperson, who was visibly agitated. She stood up from her chair and requested the speaker to let Mallikarjun Kharge speak, following which she was seen giving instructions to Congress floor coordinator Sushmita Deb. When Congress president walked in the House around 12:15 pm, Sonia Gandhi asked him to sit next to her and had a chat with the leader.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had earlier adjourned the House till noon. Home Minister Rajnath Singh was present in the House.

A day earlier, Union minister Jitendra Singh had also said that the Congress president should apologise to the people of the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the armed forces after the Supreme Court "exposed his lies" on the Rafale jet deal.

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the pleas challenging the deal between India and France for procurement of 36 Rafale jets, saying there was no occasion to "really doubt the decision making process" warranting setting aside of the contract.

The Congress has repeatedly criticised the deal for the 36 Rafale jets, alleging that the government was procuring each aircraft at a cost of over Rs 1,670 crore as against Rs 526 crore finalised by the UPA government.

The government has, however, denied any irregularity in the deal.
