Shankar Bidari appointed as Karnataka DGP

Bangalore, Nov 30, 2011: Shankar Mahadev Bidari today took over as Karnataka Director General and Inspector General of Police, official sources said. He succeeds Neelam Achyuta Rao who retired today.
The 57 year-old IPS officer of 1978 batch, Bidari was the former Police Commissioner, Bangalore City and the DIG Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
A native of Bidari village in Bagalkot district, Bidari had led the Special Task Force operations against dreaded forest brigand Veerappan, curbing his activities. Veerappan was shot dead by a special task force of Tamil Nadu police in October 2004.
