Samsung’s new battery tech could make future Galaxy smartphones

New Delhi: June 28, 2015: With battery woes forever troubling smartphone users, manufacturers are always trying to introduce new battery features or types to keep the devices running for long, like Apple’s Low Power Mode for iOS 9, fast-charging batteries, and even introducing phones with double batteries.

Samsung is also exploring new ways to improve battery in its smartphones and working on a new lithium-ion battery technology that promises longer-lasting performance.


A report on Engadget notes that the new technology uses silicon anode that packs in it more capacity than a typical battery and grow layers of graphene on top to improve the density and longevity.
Samsung researchers were able to get batteries that were 1.5 to 1.8 times denser than current smartphone batteries, which theoretically would give 21 hours of battery life.

However, as with any innovation, this technology will also take its time to arrive in future gadgets. But, nonetheless, it serves as a better option when simply thickening the smartphone to insert a bigger battery is not feasible
