Sabarimala temple is South India’s Ayodhya, says Vishwa Hindu Parishad

Kerala, Oct 20, 2018 : A day after Sitaram Yechury compared Sabarimala unrest with Babri demolition, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) spokesperson Vinod Bansal today said that Sabarimala temple is South India’s Ayodhya.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Bansal said, "Good that Sitharam Yechury has himself compared Sabarimala with Ayodhya because yes, Sabarimala is South’s Ayodhya."

Attacking the ruling Left in Kerala, the VHP spokesperson said, "The way sanctity, religious belief and the serenity of Sabarimala have been attacked shows the reality of the CPI (M). The CPI (M) remains blind and ignorant on Kerala nun suffering, the way non-Hindus are appointed in Travancore Devaswom Board. I appreciate and thank the people who are protesting and saving the sanctity of the temple."

On Saturday, Sitaram Yechury drew a parallel between the recent unrest at Sabarimala temple and the demolition of Ayodhya’s Babri Masjid in 1992.

"The pattern is..very similar," Yechury said. "At the time of the Babri Masjid’s demolition, you have the heads of the volunteers wearing the saffron bands...the same dress that you found [there then]...[a] similar thing is being done here."

Earlier, two women a journalist and an activist had to return without visiting the Sabarimala temple. The Kerala government had decided it wouldn’t take them to the central temple complex, known as the Sannidhanam, at the cost of using force against protesters. As well, a top police officer said Sabarimala’s chief priest told him he would close the temple and leave if the duo entered.

Meanwhile, the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party have slammed the Kerala government for allegedly extending support to bring women activists to the Sabarimala temple and hurting the sentiments of devotees.
