Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, August 14, 2015: A day after the Lalit Modi controversy resulted in the complete washout of Parliament’s Monsoon Session, the government on Friday said it will soon issue a Red Corner notice against the tainted former Indian Premier League chairman. "We will issue red corner notice against Lalit Modi very soon," Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore told reporters in New Delhi.

The Enforcement Directorate had earlier this week asked the Central Bureau of Investigation to issue a Red Corner notice against tainted cricket czar Lalit Modi, who is accused of violating foreign exchange rules and other income tax offences. Last week, a Mumbai court had also issued a non-bailable warrant against Modi, who has triggered a huge political storm for his links with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.  Also read: 10 big things Lalit Modi told in his defence

Modi had left India in 2010 after he was accused of evading tax and other scams related to the IPL, which he founded. He has refused to return to India, saying he fears for his security in the country. He is wanted by the Enforcement Directorate which said it will ask the authorities in Britain to arrest him and send him to India.

On Thursday, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had repeatedly dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to get the cricket czar, currently in London, back to India and put him on trial. "I am telling Modiji. This is a big opportunity for him. Just get Lalit Modi back and clean the mess (in cricket)," Rahul said, shortly after Parliament was adjourned sine die, calling Modi a "symbol of black money in India".
