Rani Maria’s beatification on November 4?

Kochi, Apr 27, 2017: The beatification of Sister Rani Maria, who was killed by a hired assassin in central India 27 years ago, will take place on November 4, a Malayalam newspaper reported quoting unconfirmed sources.

The Deepika (little lamp) also reported on April 25 that Cardinal Angelo Amato, prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints may declare the Franciscan Clarist Congregation nun a blessed at a ceremony in Indore, the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh state.

The nun died of 54 stab wounds inflicted by Samunder Singh on February 25, 1995, at deserted forest area near Indore. The nun, who was then 41, was traveling by a bus to Indore en route to her native place in Kerala, southern India.

Pope on March 21 signed the papers for Rani Maria’s beatification after they were approved by the College of Cardinals approved the Franciscan Clarist Congregation.

Besides Bishop Chacko Thottumarikal of Indore and Archbishop Leo Cornelio of Bhopal, prelates and Clarist nuns from Kerala are expected to attend the ceremonies to be held at special venue erected adjacent to the residence of the Indore bishop, the report said.

The Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly plans a thanksgiving Mass at Kochi, Kerala’s commercial capital, in November.
