The counting of the votes for the crucial bypolls also considered as a litmus test for both the parties began at 8 AM on Thursday.

In Ajmer congress candidate Raghu Sharma is leading with 24,256 votes. Similarly, in Alwar Congress candidate Karan Singh Yadav is leading with 51,782 votes.

However, in Mandalgarh assembly seat, Congress is leading with 2,012 votes.

The voting percentage recorded in Alwar was 61.78 while Ajmer recorded 64.93 percent of votes. In contrary to this Mandalgarh assembly seat witnessed 76.76 percent of votes.

The bypolls are seen as a test of the popularity of the BJP government, which hopes to win a second straight term in assembly elections later this year.

In Ajmer, the BJP candidate was Ramswarup Lamba, a Jat, son of deceased MP Sanwar Lal Jat, Union minister. The Congress fielded Raghu Sharma, a Brahmin.

Whereas in Alwar, there was a direct fight between BJP candidate Jaswant Singh Yadav (64) and Congress candidate Karan Singh Yadav (72).

By-polls took place after the seats went vacant after the death of two BJP parliamentarians - Sanwar Lal Jat and Mahant Chandnath from Alwar seat last year. Whereas assembly seat of Mandalgarh fell vacant after MLA Kirti Kumari died after suffering from swine flu in 2017.
