Osama files show an "Indian brother in Madinah” financed al Qaeda

New Delhi, May 21, 2015:  In a significant finding revealed from a trove of Osama bin Laden documents released by the US, it has emerged that the al Qaeda kingpin received lump sums of money from a so-called “Indian brother in Madinah”.

OsamaThe Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) in the United States, on Wednesday, released a huge tranche of documents that were recovered from Osama’s Abbottabad residence after the US Navy SEALs stormed the hideout on May 2, 2011.

One of the documents is a spreadsheet, which mentions some “Indian brother in Madinah” as Osama’s financier who sent lakhs of rupees to bin Laden twice - in May and July 2009.

According to the spreadsheet, the so-called “Indian brother in Madinah” paid Osama a sum of Pakistani Rs 292,400 in May 2009 and Pakistani Rs 35,000 in July 2009 along with Rs 5,000 that was was given as a tip to the money carrier.

This is the first time it has been revealed that an Indian financed Osama.

The above-mentioned spreadsheet shows Osama’s monthly accounting from April to August including gross receipt, expenditure and balance.

Osama’s statement of accounts shows that the al Qaeda chief received huge sums of money mostly from those in Arab nations like United Arab Emirates , Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Scores of documents released by the ODNI reveal a great deal of information about Osama, who wanted his followers to keep their focus mainly on attacking the US and warned them not to fight among each other.
