The investigation team obtained permission from the NIA court to question two accused who were arrested for suspected ISIS links. The NIA team had earlier arrested six men from Kanakamala in Kannur while holding a secret meeting to plot terror attack in Kerala.

The investigation team will now question two men from this including Manseed who created a secret WhatsApp group. According to top sources in the NIA, Shafin Jahan was a member of the WhatsApp group which was propagating extremist content.

By questioning the kingpins of this module, more information could be gathered about Shafin Jahan’s links with them. NIA court has given permission to question Manseed and Safwan at Viyoor Central Jail on Monday from 10 am to 5 pm.

ABOUT HADIYA/AKHILA CASE

Hadiya or Akhila Ashokan hit the headlines across the country after the 23-year old from a Hindu family converted to Islam and married Shafin Jahan in 2016.

Akhila, a BHMS student at a homeopathy college in Salem took the name Hadiya after conversion to Islam. Following this, the family and Hadiya engaged in a heated legal battle.

While her father Ashokan alleged that the girl was brainwashed and lured into Islam, Hadiya stood by her stand that she had converted on her own free will after she met him on a matrimonial website.

However, the Kerala High Court annulled this marriage and sent Hadiya with her father. The case then shifted to the apex court.

On November 27, the Supreme Court ordered that Hadiya can continue her studies but did not allow Shafin Jahan her custody.
