Reports quoting local citizens said the tremor was felt strongly in Itanagar, the capital of Itanagar, as well as in other towns like Aalo, Anini, Tuting, Gelling, Yingkiong and Mechuka. It was also felt in Dibrugarh, North Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Tezpur, Guwahati and other places in Assam as also in Kohima in Nagaland.

The India Meteorological department (IMD) website that despribed the earthquake as of “moderate” intensity, put the epicenter at Latitude 30.1 degree North and Longitude 95.1 degree East. The 6.4 magnitude earthquake that had a depth of 10 km was largely felt in the China-Indua border region, with the nearest Indian town Aalo in Arunachal Pradesh just about 184 km south of the epicenter.
