Nawaz Sharif’s effigy to be burnt alongside Ravana, Kumbhkaran and Meghnad in Amritsar

Amritsar, Oct 11, 2016: Amid India-Pakistan tensions, a group of locals in Amritsar has decided to burn an effigy of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif along with Ravana, Kumbhkaran and Meghnad on the occasion of Dussehra on Tuesday.

 

Elsewhere too, effigy-makers, this time, had demands from customers to either make an extra effigy of ’terrorism’ or the demon king with anti-terrorism slogans, keeping up with the current mood after the last month’s surgical strikes along the Line of Control by the Indian Army.

In Punjab’s Amritsar, Nawaz Sharif’s effigy was spotted wrapped up in the Pakistan flag with the Pakistani premier’s photo affixed on top.

"The reason we have affixed Nawaz Sharif`s photo because the country shelters terrorism, it promotes them and exports them to other countries. I believe that this will convey a message to Pakistan, that if it doesn`t reign in terrorists, it will meet the same end like this effigy," Cabinet Minister Anil Joshi told news agency ANI.

Indian commandos raided terrorist launch pads across the LoC in Pakistani territory on the intervening night of September 28-29, killing an unspecified number of terrorists. Pakistan denies this happened.

The strike was carried out after the terror attack on an Army camp in Uri, where 19 soldiers were killed.
