Lalita, the wife of Rohit Chillar, was found dead by her father on Monday evening in Nangloi in west Delhi.

She had married Rohit, who represents the team "Bengaluru Bulls" in the Pro-Kabaddi League, in March; this was her second marriage.

The police say Rohit was in Mumbai when she was found dead. The 26-year-old kabaddi player joined the Navy in 2009 and was posted in Mumbai.

Police say Lalita left a suicide note and also recorded a long video in which she alleged dowry demands by her husband’s family.

In the note, she said she was forced to stay alone while her husband remained out of Delhi frequently, according to senior police officer Vijay Kumar.

Last weekend, Rohit allegedly told her to leave him.

"Lalita said in the note that she was asked by her husband to leave him for his happiness, and thus she took this step," Mr Kumar said.

Rohit’s parents, who lived separately, are reportedly missing.

The police said Lalita appeared to have been depressed because her first marriage was also afflicted by dowry harassment.

Lalita was in college when she met Rohit. He used to come for swimming practice.

The police are yet to question Rohit.
