Dec 07, 2015: A 22-year-old boy was arrested yesterday for allegedly creating a fake account of a girl on a social networking website and posting obscene morphed photos of her.

Facebook

The accused identified as Wasim Khan, a resident of Goregaon, made a fake Facebook account of a girl positioning her as a call girl and also used it to send friend requests to her relatives to harass her.

Lewd act

After making the account in July, Khan started chatting with unknown people posing as the victim and also posted obscene morphed photographs of her to make it look genuine.

“The accused also shared the mobile number of the victim’s mother on the profile after which, she started getting calls from unknown people, who used to talk indecently. We feel Khan did this because of some issues he had with the victim,” said an officer with the cyber crime police.

In her statement to the police, the victim, a Malad resident, said she was shocked when she found that someone had shown her as a call girl on the internet.

Arrest

Cyber crime police arrested Khan by tracing the phone he used to create the fake account. After procuring the IP address and the IMEI number of the phone, the police found that the phone belonged to one of Khan’s relatives.

The case has been registered under section 345 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354 (D) (stalking) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of Indian Penal Code along with relevant sections of Information Technology.
