Missing Bihar doctor, wife and their Audi found in UP

Lucknow, May 7, 2015: In a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and the Bihar Police, Dr Pankaj Gupta and his wife Shubhra Gupta were rescued from Lucknow on Wednesday.

Gupta and his wife were driving to Gaya (Bihar) from Giridih in Jharkhand when they went missing. The police have arrested nine persons who are being interrogated at an undisclosed location.

"Their car was intercepted near Gaya on May 1 after which the kidnappers brought them to Lucknow by road May 5. They also took brief halts en route and kept changing vehicles. Over four vehicles were used in the crime," SSP STF Amit Pathak said.

The couple, which was travelling in a black Audi car, was last spotted at the Barahi check post, CCTV footage shows. An FIR was lodged at the Barachatti police station by Pankaj’s brother Neeraj Gupta.

"The couple’s Audi car was intercepted by two SUV vehicles that had a red beacon and the kidnappers were dressed in police uniform. The couple somehow managed to informed their family members over the phone that they are somewhere near Chandauli district," a police source told Mail Today.

"We have recovered the Audi car and two other SUVs. The couple was kept on the ninth floor of Sharda Apartment. We have recovered some country-made weapons and live cartridges from the crime scene. The couple has been sent to Patna," UP DGP A.K. Jain said.
