As to IndianExpres reportes, Justice Chelameswar, who is known for giving the only dissenting verdict in the NJAC (National Judicial Appointments Commission) case and holding a press conference on January 12 criticising the conduct of the then Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and the way the Supreme Court was being administered, Wednesday told The Indian Express that the caller had identified himself as Madhapur ACP Shiva Kumar.

He said, the man had called up at the residence of his son Jasti Ramagopal on Tuesday and claimed that an arrest warrant had been issued against him. He also said that a police team was coming to arrest him from his Gachibowli residence.

The retired judge said that his daughter-in-law, who had answered the call, initially thought there was some mistake as the caller had asked for one Vinay Krishna. She had then told the policeman to call her brother-in-law Jasti Lakshminarayana, who is Justice (retd) Chelameswar’s third son. Lakshminarayana lives close to Ramagopal’s residence.

Justice (retd) Chelameswar said that when his son informed him about the call, he had called up a senior police officer, who in turn had sent senior officers to verify the caller. “Some policemen from Madhapur police station also came to verify my son’s name and address. It turned out that the caller is a Tamil Nadu-based police officer, but identified himself as ACP of Madhapur,” he said.

The former Supreme Court judge added that an arrest warrant had indeed been issued against one Vinay Krishna in Tamil Nadu, who had given a wrong address.

“After Hyderabad Police officers called him and explained, he realised his mistake. Now he is not answering any calls. We have lodged a complaint against him for this unnecessary harassment…,” the retired judge said.

Deputy Comissioner of Police (Madhapur) Vishwa Prasad said that the police had received a complaint from Jasti Lakshminarayana and it would be forwarded to the police station concerned.
