MP: 12-year-old boy tries to imitate Bhagat Singh’s hanging scene, dies

Bhopal, Feb 06, 2020:   In a tragic incident, a 12-year-old boy at Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh died when he tried to imitate a scene of Bhagat Singh’s hanging while watching a video of a play on mobile.

The 12-year-old, identified as Shreyansh of Bholia village, died due to accidental hanging at his home which falls under Afzalpur police station area of Mandsaur, police said.

At the time of the incident, the child was watching a video of a play revolving around the life of Bhagat Singh on a mobile phone, when he tried to imitate the hanging scene, police said.

Speaking to India Today, Mandsaur SP Hitesh Chaudhary said, "The 12-year-old child was watching a video clip of the play on Bhagat Singh in school. During this time, he tried to imitate the scene of Bhagat Singh being hanged. But his couldn’t maintain his balance and died due to hanging." SP Hitesh Chaudhary called the incident a case of accidental death. He added that the child played the role of an officer in the school play.

The post-mortem of the child was done at Mandsaur district hospital, which confirmed that suffocation was the cause of death.

Following the tragic incident, the police have appealed to the parents to be careful. "It is often seen that children try to imitate what they see on mobile. In such a situation, many similar incidents have been reported in the past when children have even lost their life. In such a situation, this is an appeal to parents to consider it their duty to keep a close watch on what their kids are up to while they are using mobile phones," the SP said.
