Kerala Foods: IAS Officers carrying rice gags on Shoulders for flood relief camps

Kochi, Aug 16: Fresh rains have intensified in Kerala continuing to flood the state. While relief operations are being conducted in full force, torrential rains have put the lives of thousands of people in danger. A red alert has been sounded in 12 of the 14 districts. Rescue forces have been deployed across districts of the state but the condition is only worsening every day as heavy rains continue. Many actors, celebrities, civil servants have reached out to people on ground level trying to make necessary arrangements for the needy. Among them are two IAS officers who are working for the relief camps in Wayanad district.

In photos, G Rajamanikyam, Special officer dealing with Disaster Management, and Wayanad sub-collector NSK Umesh can be seen carrying rice bags at the Collectorate for distribution at relief camps. Pictures of the IAS officers lending a helping hand is being shared widely on social media with their efforts being lauded. The men can be seen unloading heavy sacks of rice from a vehicle.

The Centre on Wednesday rushed four more NDRF teams to Kerala to assist the local administration in the relief-and-rescue operations. In the affected regions, 14 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed; one NDRF team consists of about 45 personnel. Areas affected largely due to flooding and power failure include Idukki, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Thrissur and Pathanamthitta districts.
