Kerala: Catholic nun found dead in convent in Kottayam

Pala, Kerala, Sept 17: A Catholic nun was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her convent at Pala in Kerala’s Kottayam district on Thursday morning. Police identified the victim as Amala, 69, of Carmel Convent, Pala.

Quoting the convent authorities, police said the inmates of the convent went to her room this morning after she did not turn up for the morning mass at the convent chapel.

 

She has been suffering from fever for last few days. They found her lying in a pool of blood in her room. She had sustained a deep wound on her head. Police did not rule out the possibility of murder.

“The room did not show any indications of a tussle with another person. A thief need not target her as the nuns do not keep huge amount with them. The room in which she was found dead was not locked from inside. Nuns staying in the nearby rooms did not notice anything suspicious until they saw her body,’’ police sources said.

Catholic diocese of Pala said since the police probe is on, the Church does not want to react at this stage.
