Is the girl holding Rs 2,000 bundle BJP leader’s daughter?

New Delhi, Nov 11, 2016: After the government announced demonetization of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes, making these notes invalid, a photo of a girl posing before camera with a wad of new Rs. 2000 notes has gone viral on social media.

 

A social media war is being fought on how could someone get access to the new currency even before it reached the banks.

Some of the social media users said that the girl with the bundle of Rs 2000 notes is ‘Nalini Maurya’, the daughter of Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya. While other users are baffled to see a commoner holding currency notes that were yet to reach banks.

There prevails a lot of confusion over the woman’s identity.

ABP News, while investigating the matter to determine the reality behind this viral picture, found that the girl in question is not the daughter of BJP’s UP chief. Infact, when we accessed the affidavit submitted by Keshav Prasad Maurya during Lok Sabha election, it was revealed that the BJP leader has two sons and no daughters.

“Coincidentally, I don’t have any daughter. The entire matter must be probed and people spreading such rumors should be taken to task,” Maurya told ABP News.

While investigating the matter further, we found the belt of the bundle has ‘Jhandewalan Chest’ written over it.

What is a Chest:

Distribution of currency notes and coins throughout the country is done through designated bank branches, called chests. These chests act as the distributives of RBI cash. Chests are also a receptacle in a commercial bank to store notes and coins on behalf of the Reserve Bank of India.

According to the RBI website, India’s apex bank has two such chests in Delhi’s Jhandewalan. So, either this picture is taken inside a chest or a bank where new currency notes were sent by the RBI.
