India’s overall Covid tally nears 7 lakh after spike of over 24,000 cases

New Delhi, July 06, 2020:   With 24,248 new cases of coronavirus recorded in the last 24 hours, ending Monday morning, India’s overall tally reached 6,97,413. The death toll climbed to 19,693 after India recorded 425 fatalities.

India has overtaken Russia with the world’s third-highest number of novel coronavirus cases, at nearly 700,000, according to the latest data of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

India is now the world’s third worst-affected country, behind only the United States and Brazil. Russia has 6,81,251 infections while Brazil has 15,78,376 and the US has 29,54,999 cases, according to Worldometer which compiles the COVID-19 data from around the globe.

There have been almost 20,000 deaths in India since the first case was detected in January

As per the updated figures of the Union Health Ministry, active cases in India reached 2,53,287 on Monday, while the recoveries rose to 4,24,433. As of Monday, the recovery rate has reached 60 per cent.

On Sunday, India saw a record high of 24,850 coronavirus cases in a single day. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country stood at 6,73,165, which included 2,44,814 active cases, 4,09,083 recoveries and 19,268 deaths, according to the figures released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Sunday morning.
