Hyderabad man sets techie wife on fire, tells family she died of Delta Plus variant

Hyderabad, Jun 29, 2021: Police have identified the charred body found stuffed inside a suitcase near SVRR Government Hospital five days ago as that of a 27-year-old techie from Hyderabad. The main suspect in the case is her husband, who is believed to have killed her and fled.

 

 

The mystery behind the unidentified body, charred beyond recognition, was cracked after police officials examined CCTV footage around the hospital area and caught the cab driver who helped the main accused dump the corpse.

On questioning the cab driver, cops identified the victim as Bhubaneshwari (27), a resident of Ramasamundram in Chittoor and a software engineer who worked in Hyderabad. She married Srikant Reddy of Kadapa in 2019. They have an 18-month-old daughter.

The couple relocated to Tirupati after Srikant lost his job during the Covid-19 pandemic. Jobless and depressed, Srikant turned to alcohol, which frequently led to spats between the husband and wife.

On the intervening night of June 22-23, the couple fought again and in a fit of rage, Srikant killed Bhubaneshwari. He hired a taxi and dumped the body in the hospital compound. Later that night, he returned to the scene, poured petrol on the suitcase and set it afire.According to police sources, Srikant lied to his family and in-laws that his wife had been infected with the Delta Plus variant of Covid-19 and succumbed to it. He also told them that her body was cremated by the hospital staff.His lie was exposed when police investigating the unidentified body caught the taxi driver who took Srikant to the hospital. Police have launched special teams to locate and nab Srikant, who is on the run.Live TV
