Hyderabad man meets watery grave a day after receiving Canadian citizenship

Hyderabad, Aug 1 2017, DH News: Dreams of 33-year-old Mohammad Abdul Qadir of Hyderabad to live happily in Canada with his wife and two-month old son ended abruptly when he fell into the water at Elbow Falls near Bragg Creek in Calgary, Canada.

He received Canadian citizenship only on this Friday and has taken his parents who have gone there from Hyderabad to site seeing on Saturday when the incident occurred.

According to reports from Canada, at about 8 p.m. Emergency services were summoned to the waterfalls after Qadir slipped into the water and did not emerge. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) quoting witness said that Qadir slipped into the water while trying to save one of the family members slipping into the water fall while taking photographs.

Police also said that another person who tried to save Qadir also got hurt and has been taken to a hospital. Recovery teams finally fished out the body of Qadir on Sunday. The eyewitnesses pointed out that Qadir has stepped over the rails and he fell down while taking a photograph. The parks authority has immediately closed the area.

Speaking to the police, Raqeeb Mohammed, a close friend and former roommate of Qadir said that Qadir was working as an IT analyst for WestJet. A happy and jovial Qadir came as a migrant from India and had been living in Calgary for six or seven years. “His parents came from Hyderabad to see their new born grandson, “he said.

Meanwhile, an online fundraising campaign has been started by the friends of Qadir to meet the expenses of his funeral and return journey of his parents back to India.
