Hyderabad, Dec 12, 2017: In what appears to be a straight lift from a crime thriller, a 28-year-old woman who allegedly killed her husband with the help of her paramour, was arrested as her conspiracy failed to click.

According to Nagarkurnool Deputy Superintendent of Police A. Lakshmi Narayana, the woman, after smashing the head of her husband and making sure that he died, shifted the body to a desolated place and burnt it beyond recognition. The gruesome incident did not stop there. As planned by the duo, the woman burnt her paramour’s face with petrol, and admitted him to a hospital, claiming that he was her husband.

The incident, which sent shock waves in the town and baffled the local police, occurred in Nagarkurnool town of Nagarkurnool district in the wee hours of November 27. The deceased was identified as Sudhakar Reddy (32), a businessman. “When Sudhakar came to know about Swathi’s illicit relationship a few days ago, she hatched a conspiracy with her paramour, Rajesh (30), a physiotherapist, to kill her husband,” said the DSP.

After killing Sudhakar, her paramour and she wrapped the body in a mat and took it in a car to a spot near Nawabpet in Mahbubnagar district, where the duo burnt it.

Then, in a bid to camouflage the whole incident and after persuading Rajesh, she burnt his face with petrol and rushed him to the government hospital in Mahabubnagar, maintaining that he was her husband. He was later shifted to a private hospital in the city, he said.

“She informed her family members and relatives that unidentified persons broke into their house and attacked her husband,” Mr Narayana said. When the burnt face of Rajesh started healing and was recognisable, relatives realised that he was not Sudhakar as projected by Swathi, the DSP said.

A complaint was lodged by Surender Reddy, elder brother of the deceased, on Friday in the Nagarkurnool police station. Upon interrogation, Swati spilled the beans and took the police to the spot where Sudhakar Reddy was burnt. The remains of the body were recovered and handed over to the family members. Police said Swathi and Rajesh had developed an intimacy when she had gone to him for physiotherapy treatment for backache in a clinic run by him in Nagarkurnool.

A case was registered against the duo. Swathi was remanded on Sunday while Rajesh is still undergoing treatment.
