"The accused have been identified as Rupinder Singh and his brother Jaswinder. Their involvement in the crime came to fore after police intercepted their calls," said Punjab Additional Director General of Police (ADGP, Crime) IPS Sahota.

"Their call record establishes their links to Dubai and Australia," said Sahota, adding that the conversations between the brothers also revealed that they had perpetrated the crime.

"The police has also unearthed the track used in foreign funding for carrying out the nefarious designs to vitiate the hard-earned atmosphere of peace and communal harmony in Punjab," the ADGP said.

He also said that five out of seven Guru Granth Sahib desecration cases have been solved so far.

Meanwhile, central forces were deployed in key cities of Punjab in view of the statewide protests over the desecration.

As per reports, central forces were stationed at Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Tarn Taran. The army also held a flag march in Amritsar.
