New Delhi, May 10, 2024: Heatwave will subside from the country, barring West Rajasthan and Kerala, beginning today (Friday), the India Meteorological Department said on Thursday.

The weather department also said strong moisture flow from the Bay of Bengal is increasing thunderstorm activity in the country.

Heatwave

"Heatwave is about to end from the entire country. A heatwave alert has been issued only in West Rajasthan and Kerala," IMD scientist Soma Sen told news agency ANI.

"Tomorrow, the heatwave will only be present in West Rajasthan," she said.

The IMD scientist also said a yellow alert was issued in parts of the country.

"We have issued a yellow alert because we don’t have a lot of hope for the impact (rain activity)."

Giving out thunderstorms and heavy rain warnings for some hilly states and the northeast, the weather department said strong lightning was possible.

"Strong moisture flow is coming to the country from the Bay of Bengal, due to which thunderstorm activity is increasing. There will be a possibility of cloud-to-ground lightning in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, and other nearby states," she said.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, the IMD, in a tweet, said, strong winds and hailstorms were possible in parts of Madhya Pradesh on Friday.

In Delhi, the weather department predicted rain for this week, even as the maximum temperature in the national capital touched 42 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
