Haryana, Nov 18, 2015: In what may be the first-of-a-kind incident, a Haryana-based man pledged his wife for Rs 30,000 and later killed the money lender when he refused to release the woman.

Haryana 1.

The incident occurred on October 31 in Town park area in Sector 18 of Yamunanagar of Haryana. However, the incident came to light only on November 1 when the police recovered a dead body in Veera Nagar area. Locals later identified the deceased as Golam, a quilt maker.

The police were however clueless about the truth behind Golam’s murder till Sunday and things only became clear after the arrest of Salma, her husband Sabbir and their accomplices - Akhtar and Gaurav.

Salma - a mother of three - revealed to the police how she was pledged by Sabbir in return of a loan. Interestingly, she had informed Golam’s brother, Mohammad Alam, about the incident.

Golam had given a loan of Rs 30,000 to Sabbir for which he had mortgaged Salma. Sabbir, according to the police, had repaid the loan but Golam demanded more money and refused to release Salma.

Sabbir, in connivance with his accomplices, on Octiber 31 went to Golam’s makeshift house to bring back Salam. An argument ensued between the two groups following which Golam died.

"I was in Punjab when I was informed that my brother had been found dead near his makeshift house. He was already married and had four children. I do not know much about the money but he was living with Salma. He even took her along with three children to Jadwa Patti and lived there for four months. He then returned to Yamunanagar," Golam’s brother Alam said.

Salma and Sabbir , according to the police, hail from West Bengal and were working in a local industrial unit. Golam was their family friend. They were also living together till Sabbir took a loan from Golam.

"While Sabbir already had four children who were living with their mother in Bihar, Salma along with her three children was living with him in Yamunanagar. Salma and Sabbir brutally murdered Golam. She had called my brother Mantu that she has killed Golam," Sabbir’s brother-in-law Mohamad Jahangir said.

"Sabbir confessed to borrowing money from Golam and mortgaging his wife. When he repaid the money, he asked Golam to let him take Salma with him which he refused and demanded more money. Sabbir took Gaurav and Akhtar with him to bring back Salma but Golam refused. They had an altercation in which Golam was killed. They threw his body in the bushes," DSP, Jagadhari, Rajinder Kumar said.
