Gang-Rape Video Shared on WhatsApp. Help Trace These Men

Hyderabad, Feb 06, 2015:  In two separate videos being shared on popular messaging service WhatsApp, five men can be seen smiling and posing for the camera as they take turns to gang-rape a woman even as she appeals to them to let her go.

The video, which is believed to be at least six months old, was discovered by activist Sunitha Krishnan, who runs an anti-trafficking NGO, Prajwala, in Hyderabad.

Sunitha posted the video on YouTube yesterday, hoping to start a national campaign to shame the rapists and get them punished.

The activist has sought an appointment with the Union Home Secretary and also the Union Women and Child Welfare Minister to draw their attention to the video evidence. She would also like protocols to be drawn up so that anyone who comes across such videos can report to a cyber crime tracking cell.
 
Sunitha, who is herself a rape survivor and campaigns to protect women from trafficking, said her car was stoned this morning, minutes after she appeared on NDTV to announce her #ShameTheRapistCampaign.
 

 
On her Facebook page, Ms Krishnan writes she was alerted to the horrific video by a young man who received it on WhatsApp.  "On checking the videos, I found it was not enacted but a true video which some ’sicko’ while raping had recorded it, in all probability to threaten and intimidate the victim. The original video is with me which 8 mins and 4 mins long. I cut short the video, protected the identity of the victim...but the rapist is for you to see."

She adds this: "If you know of anybody who has received any such videos, inform me at sunitha_2002@yahoo.com."
