Former Bihar minister’s daughter stoned to death by in-laws

Patna, July 22, 2016: Sangeeta Devi, daughter of former JDU leader Baidhyanath Sahani was stoned to death by her in-laws over property dispute on Thursday. Sangeeta Devi was admitted to a local hospital in Begusarai last night in critical condition.

baidhyanath-sa...Sangeeta was married to Santosh, son of Bilo Sahni, a resident of Begusarai in 2000. Unfortunately, Santosh died lat November after prolonged illness. Ever since then, the in-laws of Sangeeta were torturing her for the property that Santosh had left behind. Baidhyanath Sahni alleges that the in-laws of Sangeeta used to force and torture her to transfer all the property and wealth in their name to which Sangeeta refused.  

Sahni said on July 20, he had gone to meet her daughter in Begusarai and found that her in-laws were beating her with stones. He tried to intervene but could not do so. Later, Sangeeta was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition and was undergoing treatment but succumbed to her injuries on Thursday night.


"My daughter Sangeeta has been killed by her in-laws who have stoned her to death. I had come to see my daughter on July 20 and found that she was being beaten by her in-laws", said Baidhyanath Sahni.

According to police sources,  the in-laws of after their son Santosh’s death has usurped gold ornaments worth Rs 12 lakh and a Bolero jeep.

The police have now registered an FIR in this murder case against seven person, four male and three female members, from the in-laws side have started investigation in the case. In a late night crack down, police have arrested three members from the in-laws family. Other four accused are still absconding and police team are carrying out searches to arrest them as well.

In the meantime, the former Minister has expressed confidence that he will get justice from his govt.

"I have full faith in Nitish Kumar government and I am hopeful that I will get justice in the case", said Baidhyanath Sahni.
