Five soldiers injured in fresh cease-fire violation by Pakistan along LoC

Srinagar, Apr 03, 2018 : Five army soldiers, including an officer, were injured in fresh cease-fire violation by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

 

A defence spokesperson said that Pakistani army violated ceasefire and opened fire in Krishna Ghati sector early morning. "Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics and mortars. An army officer and four soldiers were injured in Pakistani firing," he said and added Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively.

The injured, according to an official, were airlifted to Command Hospital Udhampur for specialized treatment. The injured were identified as Lieutenant Kallmputi Bhargava, Naib Subedar Mahlya Vikas Motilal, Subedar Sakunday Sameer Kashi Nath, Naik Dhumal Sandeep and Sepoy Mastpuray Subham.

Reports said the intermittent firing and shelling was going on in the area. Pakistan Army has been violating ceasefire along the LoC and International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir frequently. Since the third week of January, 26 persons, including 12 security personnel and 14 civilians, have been killed in Pakistani ceasefire violations along the LoC and the IB in Jammu.

In February, four army personnel, including a 22-year-old captain, were killed in Pakistani shelling along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri districts. A senior army official said security forces have strengthened presence all along the IB and the LoC. "There are reports that militants have mixed up with Pakistan army to target the army, BSF and infiltrate into the Indian territory. Taking no chance, security forces were taking all steps to counter infiltration attempts by the militants on the border," he said.

The Indian and Pakistani armies had agreed to a ceasefire along the LoC, the International Border (IB) and along Actual Ground Position Line at Siachen glacier in November 2003. Although it held good for 10-years, in the last few years, Pakistani troops have violated the ceasefire agreement hundreds of times.

India shares a 3,323-km-long border with Pakistan of which 221 km of the IB and 740 km of the LoC fall in Jammu and Kashmir.
