Premakumar, a small time trader gave the quintuplets suitable names as they were born on the Uthram star in Malayalam calendar. He even renamed their house ‘Pancha Ratnam’ (Five Gems).

The quintuplets, who will turn 24 on November 18, have completed their education and are now employed. Uthraja and Uthama are anesthesia technicians, Uthara is a fashion designer and Uthra is an online journalist. Their brother Uthrajan is an IT professional.

“Getting the four girls married on the same day was my  wish since they were born , the  grace of the Almighty has found suitable alliances for them and am happy that my wish will be fulfilled,” mother Remadevi stated.

Remadevi also remembers how her husband worked hard  when he was alive to ensure all his children get equal opportunities. “After my husband’s sudden demise, I was in a vacuum until I picked my self up and decided that I should live for my children and fight on all circumstances,” she adds.

Questioned on Uthrajan the lone boy’s marriage, the mother says that as a man, he has to reach the peak  and hence its better he waits till the time is ripe.

However, the sad aspects too exist, the rough times in the family. Mother Remadevi was down with heart problems, the family faced financial issues. When the quintuplets were 9 years old, father Premakumar committed suicide.  Premakumar’s death was a shock from the blue;  many good Samaritans aided the family financially. Remadevi managed to get a pacemaker and a job in a government bank. She lived for her children and ensured that they receive the best education. All seems to end well and are wished all luck.
