Election officials seize Rs 55 Lakh in 2 cases in Karnataka

Bagalkot, Mar 31, 2018 : Election officials seized Rs 55 lakh being transported without valid documents in two separate cases at a checkpost at Honnakatti Cross in the taluk on Saturday.

 

In the first instance, the money was being transported in a Hyundai car on its way from Ilkal to Bagalkot, through the Raichur-Belagavi state highway. Tahsildar Vinay Kulkarni seized the currency kept in a sack and took four persons who were in the car into custody. Deputy Commissioner K G Shantaram also visited the spot.
Those in the car told the officials that they were taking the money from the Ilkal branch of the District Credit Co-operative Bank to the head office in Bagalkot. Neither did they have documents nor were the safety arrangements in place. The officials have sounded out the Income Tax authorities.

In another incident, Rs 5 lakh was seized from a car belonging to contractor class I Shivanand Kovalli of Murnal village. The contractor was on his way to Rampur.
