Delhi’s dog killers info gets a reward of 1 lakh, says NGO

New Delhi, Mar 21, 2016: Two NGOs working for cruelty against animals have announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for any information about a man who killed a one-month-old puppy and critically injured four other dogs at Green Park Metro station.

A video showing the man dressed in shorts and a jacket with knife in his hands is trending on social media. The six-minute video was uploaded by Fauna Police, one of the NGOs who announced the reward, on Sunday afternoon. The other NGO is Humane Society International. The incident took place on Tuesday night.

The video shows the killer standing alone on the stairs of the Metro station. He stabs the one-month old puppy, Brownie, and throws him from the stairs. The killer took nearly 18 minutes to kill Brownie and stab the other dogs.

The Delhi Police have not arrested the man despite the fact that his face is clearly visible in the video. As the police remained clueless, the NGOs announced the reward so that people who watch the video may provide some information leading to the killer’s arrest.

Although the NGOs have received many calls, they are yet to get any concrete information about the man seen on the tape.

“We have provided all the information we had to the police but they have shown an indifferent approach in handling the case. Initially, we were not even given the CCTV footage. We managed to get a photograph of the killer from a CCTV installed at one of the shops and gave it to them. Could they not have spoken to the shopkeepers and tried to trace the killer? We somehow managed to get the CCTV and uploaded it on YouTube,” said Abhinav, member of Fauna Police.

On Sunday afternoon, hours after the video - Delhi’s serial dog killer – went on social media, the police geared up and the investigating officer got the photograph of the killer published. The photograph, police said, would be pasted across the area.

DCP (South) Prem Nath denied laxity on part of the police.

“A case was registered the moment we learnt about the incident. We have the photograph of the man and are trying to trace him. We have printed his photographs too,” the DCP said.

Abhinav said that he suspected the man could be a serial killer because they have information about another dog’s murder from the nearby area, a day after Brownie was killed.

Residents of the neighbouring areas have condemned the cruelty to the dogs. Some local residents suspect that it could be an “act of vengeance”.

Satish Kumar, president of the Green Park RWA said, “Rising numbers of stray dogs has become problem in our locality but nobody supports the act of brutal killing of an animal. It is inhumane.”
