The storm that left behind a trail of destruction in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep was expected to make landfall in Gujarat on Tuesday night, causing heavy rains in the state and adjoining Maharashtra.

Maharashtra minister Vinod Tawde said on Twitter a holiday was declared for “Sindhudurga, Thane, Raigad and Palghar districts” in the view of the weather department’s forecast of intermittent rains in the next 24 hours.

Police said some parts of the Munbai-Pune Expressway experienced a hailstorm early Tuesday even as the traffic on Eastern and Western Express Highways in Mumbai slowed down after sowers. For its part, the Western Railway (WR) said it had taken precautions and made suitable arrangements in view of the warning about cyclone Ockhi in coastal areas of Maharashtra.
