The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Mishra. In case he fails to pay the fine, the sentence will be increased by 3 months in jail. Mishra was however granted bail after the sentence and he said that he will continue his ’fight’.

The MP government had filed a case of criminal defamation against KK Mishra in June 2014 under section 199 (2).

The case was filed after KK Mishra had said that many of the candidates selected illegally as constables in the transport department through the recruitment agency Vyapam hailed from Gondi- the town to which Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s wife Sadhna Singh belongs.

The prosecution had alleged that Mishra had lowered the dignity of the CM and his family through the unsubstantiated allegations.

KK Mishra had earlier filed a revision petition at the High Court demanding that his case be heard elsewhere. His petition was dismissed by the HC and another petition filed by Mishra with the same prayer at the Supreme Court was not entertained either.

On Thursday, a day before the sentence was delivered, Mishra had rather dramatically declared through social media that the ruling in the case would be out on Friday and he would like to inform the media of the same before the department of public relations does.
