Congress leader pressurised me to help coal scam accused: Sushma Swaraj

Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, July 22, 2015: Even as Parliament remained stalled over Opposition’s demand that she resign over ’Lalitgate’, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Wednesday, took the fight to the opposition camp with a sensational counter-attack.

Swaraj has claimed that a senior Congress leader had put pressure on her to grant diplomatic passport to coal scam accused, former MoS Coal Santosh Bagrodia.

Yesterday, the Opposition had created a storm in Parliament over the Lalit Modi controversy in which Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje have figured. The Opposition, mainly the Congress, has been demanding resignation of Raje, Swaraj over the issue.

They also trained their guns on Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over the Vyapam scam

The government responded by saying that Swaraj is ready to make a statement in Parliament on allegations against her on facilitating the former IPL boss’ travel documents.

Importantly, a number of Opposition parties like those from the Janata Parivar have shown that they do not share the Congress enthusiasm in seeking Swaraj’s resignation.

Even in the all-party meeting held yesterday, Congress appeared to be isolated on its stance of "no resignation, no House" as most other parties said in the meeting that a washout of Parliament is not a solution.
