Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, Nov 28, 2020:    Thousands of farmers from Punjab and other states, gathered at various entry points into Delhi, continued their stir for the third day on Saturday as the protesting farmers and the government arrived at no agreement regarding the demonstration, including their site of protest. Apart from the burning of effigies and tires, no serious incident was reported from the Delhi border areas.

Farmers Protest

Farmers from several parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan have started their march towards Delhi to join the farmers protest against the farm laws as tension built-up around the city’s edges and beyond. Delhi Police was put on high alert as the cops expected thousands to gather at the Delhi border areas to take part in the stir.

The farmers also deliberated to decide if they would hold the protest at Nirankari ground in Delhi’s Burari. After meeting the leaders, the farmers demanded to go to Jantar Mantar to continue their protest. The central government, meanwhile, remained firm on the December 3 talks, while the relentless farmers refused to retreat.

Several Opposition parties including the Congress and the Samajwadi Party attacked PM Narendra Modi and the Centre over the farm bills and the police force against the protesting farmers. Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar claimed the farmers’ protest was backed by political parties and also claimed a Khalistani connection to the stir.
PM’S ARROGANCE MADE JAWANS STAND AGAINST KISANS: RAHUL GANDHI

Sharing a viral photo of the farmers’ protest in which police personnel was clicked aiming his baton at a farmer, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said it was very "dangerous". He said PM Modi’s "arrogance" has made the jawans stand against the kisans (farmers).
"Our slogan was Jai Jawan Jai Kisan, but today PM Narendra Modi’s arrogance made the jawan stand against the farmer. This is very dangerous," Rahul Gandhi said.Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also took on the central government. She said, "Look at the arrangements of the BJP government in the country....when Delhi makes laws for farmers it’s okay but when the farmers come to Delhi so that the government listens to them, them it’s wrong?"

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said while PM Narendra Modi is getting himself photographed at companies in Ahmedabad, there are farmers who are moaning in pain in the streets of Delhi.

Taking a dig at PM Modi’s tour to Ahmedabad to review the development of coronavirus vaccine, Randeep Surjewala said, "The scientists will find the corona vaccine, farmers will feed the nation and Modiji and BJP will take care of television."

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, too, attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party and said it is the only party that treats farmers with neglect.

"Treating farmers with such dereliction has never been done by any party except BJP. These are the same people who had told farmers that they’d not only waive loans but would bring in policies which would double farmers’ income," Akhilesh Yadav said.
KHATTAR CLAIMS STIR HAS BACKING OF POLITICAL PARTIES

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has, meanwhile, claimed that the farmers’ protest has the backing of the political parties. He also alleged that there was a Khalistani connection in the stir. Manohar Lal Khattar also said Punjab is responsible for the farmers’ protest, and not the Haryana farmers.

Manohar Lal Khattar also said he has been trying to contact Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh since the protest began but he received no response.
