Jaipur, Jun 20, 2016: Senior Congress leaders have demanded the sacking of Rajasthan home minister Gulab Chand Kataria for using foul language against former Manmohan Singh during a public meeting on Sunday.

Addressing party workers in Churu district, Kataria praised Narendra Modi for being a strong prime minister while comparing him to predecessor Singh.

“Jab Desh ka pradhan mantra Manmohan Singh america utarta tha, toh s** ko receive karne ke liye aera-gera nathu khera mantra airport se jakar ke le ke aata tha (When PM Manmohan Singh used to visit the US, a lowly junior minister would be there at the airport to receive ***).”

But now, when the Indian PM goes to the US, American President Obama (Barrack) receives the Prime Minister. Do you understand what does this mean… country’s respect and pride has increased,” Kataria said.

Coming under severe criticism from the Congress, the minister denied abusing Singh. “I have not stated anything maliciously against prime minister Manmohan Singh in my speech. If it has hurt somebody, I apologise,” he tweeted hours later at around 9.20pm.

The tweet came after former chief minister Ashok Gehlot demanded that Kataria be sacked. “Strongly condemn Rajasthan home minister’s derogatory remarks against the former prime minister… he should be sacked from his post. BJP’s leaders r shamelessly saying whatever they want. They hv literally crossed all the limits,” Gehlot tweeted.

State’s Congress chief Sachin Pilot said the comments showed mental bankruptcy and moral decline of the BJP. Kataria should apologise without any delay, he said.

Modi recently concluded a two-day visit – his fourth in two years -- to the US during which he addressed a joint session of the congress with Obama reiterating support for India’s NSG bid.

Modi broke protocol to receive the Obamas at the Delhi airport in January 2015 but Obama didn’t extend such a gesture during any of PM’s visits as was claimed by Kataria.
