City rowdy shot dead off NH 4 near Pune

Bengaluru, July 27, 2015 DHNS: A history-sheeter from Bengaluru was shot dead by unidentified gunmen off National Highway 4 in Rajgad district of Maharashtra on Friday night.

rowdy.A police source here identified him as Chandrashekar Achari, a real estate dealer from Hoysala Nagar in Ramamurthy Nagar. He was a history-sheeter at the Ramamurthy Nagar police station. He was said to be involved in some murders and attempts to murder reported in Ramamurthy Nagar, Hoskote and KR Puram police station limits.

On their way back from Shirdi, Achari and his friends had pulled in outside the Nataraj Hotel on NH 4 near Pune to drink water. Achari got down from the car and went to get water from the hotel. Just then, unidentified men opened fire at him and he bled to instant death. His friends took him to a hospital but he was declared brought dead, according to the source.

A top police officer said: “The deceased is said to have been building a temple in Ramamurthy Nagar and had gone to Shirdi to purchase an idol. While coming back, he was shot dead. As per the information provided by the Maharashtra police, there were six people and a gunman with him when the incident took place.”

The Pune police are questioning Achari’s friends who were with him. “It is clear that he was killed by members of a rival gang. The assailants are also from Bengaluru. There are vital clues about them and they will be arrested soon,” the officer added.
