Terrorists resorted to indiscriminate firing on a CRPF patrol party in Baramulla district’s Sopore town, about 50 km from Srinagar, police said. The CRPF troops retaliated but the terrorists managed to escape.

Four CRPF troops were injured in the attack. One of them later died due to injuries. A civilian, who was in a car with his children, was also shot during the attack. He died on the spot, a senior police official said.

"Terrorists attacked a naka (patrol) party at Sopore’s Model Town. The are has been cordoned off and search operation has been started," Director General of Police Dilbag Singh, Jammu & Kashmir Police, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Search is on for the terrorists, the Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet.

More than 30 terrorists were killed last month in separate encounters.

Last month, J&K police chief Dilbag Singh said that more than 100 terrorists have been killed this year. "During the last about five-and-a-half months, over 100 terrorists have been neutralised, out of them 50 plus were from the Hizbul Mujahideen, around 20 from the Lashkar-e-Taiba, 20 from the Jaish-e-Mohammed and the rest from smaller outfits like Al-Badr, Ansar Gazwatul Hind," Mr Singh said.

On Monday, security forces killed three terrorists, including Hizbul Mujahideen commander Masood Ahmed Bhat, in an encounter in Anantnag district.
