"I met Prime Minister @narendramodi and congratulated him on being re-elected as Prime Minister," the JD(S) chief tweeted.

Kumaraswamy discussed release of funds under the MNREGA scheme to the state with Modi, reported Tv9 Kannada.

Earlier in the day, he also met Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and discussed water-related issues in the state.

"Shri @hd_kumaraswamy , Hon’ble Chief Minister, Karnataka called on for a courtesy meeting and to discuss water-related issues in the state, at Shram Shakti Bhawan, New Delhi," Shekhawat tweeted.

Kumaraswamy added two new members to his cabinet, both independent legislators, on Friday, to provide some solidity to the JD(S)-Congress coalition government, which has hobbled because of persistent discontent over prominence and ministerial berths.

Governor Vajubhai Vala administered the oath of office and secrecy to the two leaders, R Shankar and H Nagesh, at a short ceremony at Raj Bhavan.

After initially supporting the alliance, Shankar and Nagesh had aligned themselves with a group of Congress rebels led by disgruntled party leader and former state minister Ramesh Jarkiholi. This was when the BJP’s ‘Operation Lotus’, aimed at dislodging the alliance through desertions, was underway. The group holed up in a Mumbai hotel just before Kumaraswamy presented his budget in February.
