Bangalore,  September 30: Good news for people in Bangalore: dedicated bus lanes are being introduced at 12 high-density corridors and the first phase will open from November 1.

According to a Times of India report, the travel time in BMTC buses from the city centre to various destinations like tech hubs -- Whitefield and Electronics City -- is expected to be reduced.

Government sources said the 30-km network connecting MG Road-KR Puram–Central Silk Board Junction–Vellara Junction will be the first to have a dedicated bus lane. The main focus of the dedicated bus lane is to promote public transport and also reduce travel time.

The lane for the busses will be 3.5 metres wide, and the roads have been widened so that space for other private vehicles is not reduced. The exact routes will be announced by the chief minister later.

In July, Bengaluru Traffic police held talks with cab aggregators Ola and Uber regarding the parking of cabs in areas with higher traffic. This move was aimed to reduce the congestion on the roads, mainly in the commercials areas where the traffic is a big issue due to high vehicles count.

At present, there are no rules for cab aggregators on parking. Sometimes, parked vehicle alongside the roads becomes a huge problem for pedestrians as well as other vehicles to move
