Bengaluru, June 02: House parties are emerging as the new rave hotspot in the Silicon Valley of India. And there is no dearth of drugs in the weekend bash organised by Bengaluru techies in a big way. A major narcotics racket involving IT professionals has been busted and the Bengaluru police have arrested a software engineer- turned- drug dealer. The accused, Raja alias Antaryami Sahu, 30, who was employed with a renowned software firm, was apparently the leading supplier to weekend house parties in the city.

Raja, who hails from Ganjam district in Odisha, was arrested from his home in BTM Layout, south Bengaluru, last weekend, where a majority of the IT professionals reside. The police recovered 4.1kg of ganja worth

` 1.5 lakh from his home. It is said that Rajas father is a senior officer in the Customs department.

Raja used to procure ganja from his home state from a dealer who he knew from his college days. Raja apparently was himself into drugs and decided to make quick business out of it after knowing the demand of the banned substance in the city.

" The accused, Raja, is a BTech holder and worked in a software firm in Bengaluru. He used to procure ganja from Odisha and sell it to his friends, students and other IT professionals in the city," said Bengaluru city police commissioner M. N. Reddi.

The police are of the view that Rajas clientele surpassed 500 IT professionals in the city. " We conducted an inspection of his home on the basis of a credible tip- off. He has emerged as the leading supplier of ganja for house parties hosted by techies in BTM Layout, Koramangala, HSR Layout, Electronics City and Indiranagar. We are eliciting more information from him on the expanse of his trade," sources in the police said.

The police have found out that Raja was the one- point contact for such techies, who sourced ganja from him. While Raja has informed the police that he quit the job and took up drug dealing full- time, investigators are cross- checking his claims.

Raja may have had one or two accomplices in the trade as it would not be possible for him to run the show alone from Odisha to Bengaluru. The police are also ascertaining how he hoodwinked the railway police in transporting ganja.
