BSF jawan’s teen son shoots himself dead with father’s gun

Mangalore Today News Network

Bengaluru, Jan 20, 2015, DHNS: A teenage son of a retired Border Security Force (BSF) jawan shot himself dead with his father’s double-barrelled gun at his home in Doddabommasandra near Vidyaranyapura on Monday afternoon.

JeetendraPreliminary investigation suggests that Jithendra, 17,  took the extreme step as he was unable to cope with academic pressure, though a suicide letter he purportedly left behind does not cite any reason. He was studying second-year pre-university course (PUC) at MES College in Malleswaram, the police said.

“Although he stated in his death note that nobody should be blamed for his death, initial probe suggests academic pressure as the possible cause of the suicide,” according to a police officer.

Jithendra’s father, Chandrashekar, is a supervisor at a security agency while his mother Geetha is an assistant at an LPG agency.

The family hails from Madikeri but has been living in Bengaluru for many years now, the officer added.

In the death note, Jithendra wrote, “My dear mother, my apologies to you. I am hurt regarding certain issues. I am parting ways with you all. I will be born as your son in my next life. Nobody is responsible for my death. I am alone responsible for my death.”

Chandrashekar and Geetha had gone to work at 8.30 am while Jithendra left for college an hour later to attend a preparatory exam. But he returned soon after without taking the exam.

‘Called up mom and wept’

At 12.45 pm, he called up his mother and wept for some time.

He requested her to come home early as he wanted to discuss a few matters. Geetha got worried and asked him what was bothering him. Jithendra said he would explain everything to her once she returned home and hung up, the police said.

Geetha telephoned him five minutes later but he didn’t return the call.

“I grew anxious and rushed back home,” Geetha recounted to the police. Jithendra went into his father’s bedroom around 1.20 pm, took out the gun and fired one shot into the bed to check if it was working well. He then shot himself in the head. Some neighbours heard the gunshot and ran to the house. They also called the police. Just then, Geetha also reached the house and the suicide emerged, the police added.
