Bhopal, Nov 03:  Shah Rukh Khan lives in India but "his heart is in Pakistan", senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya said today attacking the Bollywood star for his remarks on religious intolerance in the country that he made on NDTV and drawing condemnation from his own party.

"Shah Rukh Khan lives in India, but his heart is in Pakistan. His films make crores here but India seems intolerant to him," the former cabinet minister posted on Twitter.

"Isn’t this treason? India is about to become a member of the UNSC. All forces opposing India including Pakistan are conspiring against it," Mr Vijayvargiya said.

He said there is a "conspiracy" to create an atmosphere of intolerance in India. "Shah Rukh’s tune is to sing with Pakistan and these forces against India," he said.

"When hundreds were killed in Bombay in 1993, then where was Shah Rukh Khan? When Mumbai 26/ 11 attack was where Shah Rukh?" he said.

He added that the whole world today "values India and its leadership". "To talk of growing intolerance now would be weakening India before the world," he said.

Responding to his remarks, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said Mr Vijayvargiya was not a party spokesperson. "I condemn his comments outright," he said.

Speaking to NDTV yesterday on his 50th birthday, Mr Khan had said that there was nothing worse than religious intolerance and that it would take India to the Dark Ages.

"Our religion cannot be defined or showed respect to by our meat-eating habits. How banal and silly is that," said Shah Rukh Khan in a hard-hitting and outspoken interview to NDTV.

The actor came out in support of the artistes and writers who have returned awards to protest what they call "growing intolerance", but said he wouldn’t do it, rather would choose a different form of protest, like a march or a strike.

Also responding to a question about online abusers who "tell him to go to Pakistan", he had said, "This is a country where my father fought for freedom and he gave me a piece of it. So I am very proud of it and I am not giving away what my father gave (me) to anyone or leaving any which way. So please shut up."
