At least 12 Maoists, 1 Greyhounds commando killed in encounter

Hyderabad, Mar 02, 2018: At least 12 Maoists, including Telangana state secretary of CPI(Maoist), his wife and a Greyhounds commando, died in a major encounter near the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border during the early hours of Friday.

The incident occurred near Tadpala and Poojarikankedu in Charla block of Jayashankar Bhupalapally district in Telangana.

A team of Greyhounds and police who were combing the area on credible information encountered the Maoists and the two sides started exchanging fire.

Two AK 47s, 10 weapons, a scanner, laptop, Rs 41,000 in cash and incriminating literature was found at the site.

The police believe that about 50 Maoists were camping in the area for over a fortnight.

Maoist leader Yapa Narayana alias Haribhushan alias Jagan and his wife Samakka were among the dead in the encounter.

The bodies of constable Susheel and of the slain Maoists have been sent to Bhadrachalam by a chopper.

Three Greyhounds commandoes injured in the encounter were also rushed to Bhadrachalam.

The joint forces of both the states are continuing with their combing operations in the adjoining areas of the encounter site.

The police are keeping an eye on this area after several land mines were found in the locality.
